Founded in 2016, Excel Dance Company is one of Northern Ireland’s most reputable dance and performing arts schools.
Under the direction of our Creative Directors, Lynda Moore and Brooke Allen, all of our students receive first class training from highly experienced and qualified teachers in a safe and encouraging environment.
All classes take place in our purpose-built studios in Newtownards.
Excel Dance Company is registered with the British Theatre Dance Association (BTDA) and the Associated Board of Dance (ABD).
We offer graded examinations to all students in Classical Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz, Speech and Drama, Acrobatics, Lyrical, Contemporary and Musical Theatre.
All exams are regulated by the Graded Qualifications Alliance (GQAL). Higher examinations are equivalent in skills and understanding to that of GCSEs and A levels, attracting UCAS points, and are recognised by Universities.
We also offer preparatory grades in all subjects, as well as medal tests, ensuring that students receive the correct foundations before taking graded examinations.
Students who wish to compete and represent Excel Dance Company, must audition to become a part of our competition troupe.
Auditions are held annually and are open to students from four years old to adult. Competition work is offered in all subjects, in the form of solos, duets, trios and troupes.
Excel Dance Company compete in many local and national competitions.
We have also recently represented Northern Ireland at the Dance World Cup (2019), winning many top 10 rankings and receiving bronze medals.
Excel Dance Company produce two annual showcases each year, at Christmas and in the spring term.
All students have the opportunity to participate in our showcases, building performance skills, teaching theatre etiquette and enhancing confidence.
We also produce an annual musical theatre production in the summer term. Previous shows include Hairspray (2019) and Annie (2018). Auditions are open to both students and non-students.
Open days enable parents to view their child’s class to see how they are progressing in their chosen subjects.
We regularly hold open days at which parents are invited to view students in the studio as they demonstrate examination work, showcase choreography and more.
Furthermore, this is an opportunity for parents to talk to their class teacher and discuss student progression.
Guest Tutors & Workshops
As well as our teaching faculty, we regularly welcome guest tutors from all over the UK to Excel Dance Company for classes and workshops.
We recently worked in partnership with Leicester College of Performing Arts (LCPA) to deliver their Northern Ireland training programme at Excel Dance Company.
While many of our students who have worked with guest tutors at Excel Dance Company, have been successful in auditions for UK wide training programmes such as Seek Dance Company and Mission: Inspire.
Teaching staff can be booked for private tuition.
We offer private tuition for examination work for all subjects, competition choreography, or simply to work with a student on a specific skill or technical element.
